Muscat de Frontignan a town on the Mediterranean coast in Southern France has long been famous for its high-quality Muscat wines which were popular with such diverse figures as the French philosopher Voltaire and US President Thomas Jefferson. Called Vin Doux Naturale [van doo nah-tew-REHL] or“naturally sweet wine ” it is made from grapes that are high in natural sugar whose fermentation is stopped by the addition of a neutral alcohol of no more than 10 percent of the volume.
